The Liberia International Airport is where most people coming to visit Costa Rica begin their trip.This is the second biggest airport in the country and has gained a reputation for being the airport of choice for tourists specifically because of the accessibility of all the attractions and destinations around it.The airport is also called the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport, named in honor of the former president of Costa Rica who envisioned creating an airport in Guanacaste and who supported the development of the area.The airport was opened in 1995 and has served as a hub to many tourist destinations ever since as it grew and grew into the second largest airport in Costa Rica.

The airport is set some 8 miles (13 km) outside the town of Liberia and 134 miles northwest (217 km) of San José. It receives daily flights from places throughout Costa Rica and the rest of the world. Outside of domestic flights, the most frequent connections are between the US and Canada, although there are arrivals from Europe and South America as well.
